Before the fall of the hyperlane network, every pleasure of the Emperor’s life was shaped to suit his decadent lifestyle, from the seats of his transports to the humidity of the air he breathed, but among his many pleasures, the greatest he appreciated was his chocolate.

To satisfy him, the Ministry of Agriculture built a station, hidden from the public eye, where a race who specialized in agriculturalism bent their knowledge of genetics and plant husbandry to the task of creating the finest cocoa beans that they could muster, tailored specifically to the desires of the Emperor and his unique, gifted palate that demanded ever-greater heights of complexity. As the Emperor’s demands grew, a large portion of the funds were used to conceal this station so that their growing techniques could remain exclusive to the Emperor. Over time, the Emperor’s chocolate became almost synonymous with the Emperor himself, and he would often appear with a glass of drinking chocolate in his hand when addressing his trillions of subjects.

Capitalizing on this, the chocolatiers pushed their chocolate as a patriotic symbol, creating numerous other, less demanding cocoa trees whose chocolate could be made for far cheaper, and while no chocolate was as fine as the Emperor’s, all that they produced was in high demand and sold at a great profit. Soon, it was being used in an almost religious fashion throughout the empire; a piece of chocolate on an altar to the Emperor could be found in the homes that could afford it.

By the time the hyperlane network fell, the prosperity of the chocolatiers was so great that the space station had, in effect, become its own colony, and where most planets desperately struggled to stay alive after the hyperlane collapse, this corner of the galaxy simply shrugged, retrofitted their growing beds to make food, and nibbled at their chocolate.

However, many of those on the station had themselves succumbed to their own propaganda; over generations, the creation of chocolate became a holy task, and its sale a patriotic imperative. Now, the station is controlled as one massive business venture, and when the hyperlane network reappeared, those with controlling shares of the company recognized their new purpose: to turn the hyperlanes into great troughs through which their sweets, and their influence, may flow—after all, there’s a chocolate for every occasion.

Goals[编辑 | 编辑源代码]

  • Re-establish the chocolate church in as many empires as possible.
  • Cosy up to the old empire.
