Ethics are the guiding principles of an empire and its people and determine an empire or pop's favored courses of action and responses to situations. Empires and individual populations don't always align ethically which can cause internal strife in large nations. AI species follow the same ethics rules and their behavior is heavily dependent on the ethics they follow. Naturally, a Militant Xenophobe alien empire will react very differently to the player than a Timid Xenophile. AI empires will, however, compromise on their ethics if circumstances are dire enough, for instance, if it is threatened by imminent conquest.
Every empire except Fallen Empires can have four either moderate or fanatic ethics, and a single Logic ethic. Fallen Empires have only one fanatic ethic and a Logic. Pops have only one moderate ethic each.
Empire Ethics[编辑 | 编辑源代码]
Each empire has 9 Ethic points that can be spent on Ethics. Each moderate or fanatic ethic costs 2 points, and each of the three Logic ethics costs 1 point. Gestalt Consciousness is a special ethic for connected societies; it costs 4 points and requires either the
Empire ethics have a profound effect on Unity during the game. If you take actions that go against your Empire's guiding ethics, it will incur a cost of Unity, while those in harmony with guiding ethics will reward Unity. In addition, diplomatic options with alien species are affected by ethics, as are some options for dealing with anomalies. As a result, ethics choices have a greater impact on game experience than the bonuses and maluses listed on this page.
Ethic Axes[编辑 | 编辑源代码]

List of Ethics[编辑 | 编辑源代码]
GESTALT Gestalt Consciousness We reach into the void. The vast expanse becomes us. Effects
|
LOGIC Perceptive Temporal Logic Absolute truth exists at a moment and location. What is true here and now was not always so in every existence, but what is false is such only because it will at one time someplace be true. |
LOGIC Enigmatic Logic Absolutes are changed by their observation. Therefore, absolute truths are unknowable until they are known, at which time they become relative, and the absolute is again unknowable. |
LOGIC Multi-valued Logic True and false are two ends of a scale, with infinite absolutes between them. Reality is too complex to limit our reason to these two outcomes. |
OBJECTIVITY Passionate We Know our knowledge is incomplete, so must trust our feelings and instincts to guide us when our knowledge fails us. |
OBJECTIVITY Subjective We can only see Truth from our own viewpoint, and not as a whole. |
OBJECTIVITY Objective A Truth stands by itself, with or without our understanding of it. |
OBJECTIVITY Detached Our personal feelings and experiences do not change a Truth. |
TOLERANCE Xenophobic Effects
If they are different, they are not us. |
TOLERANCE Nationalistic Effects
We must be cautious of those that are different. |
TOLERANCE Permissive We realize the potential good in those that are different. |
TOLERANCE Xenophilic We rejoice in that which makes us different, for it makes us stronger. |
ASSERTIVENESS Timid We must be careful that we don't make enemies. |
ASSERTIVENESS Content We are happy with what we have. |
ASSERTIVENESS Ambitious We do not shy from working for our success. Effects
|
ASSERTIVENESS Militant We will allow nothing to come between us and our goals. Effects
|
LIBERTY Totalitarian Only when a single authority has complete control do we have a truly stable society. |
LIBERTY Authoritarian Our success relies on a strong authority enforcing laws upon the lawless. |
LIBERTY Libertarian The State should only have the power to basic rights and protections to its citizens. |
LIBERTY Anarchic Society flourishes when we work together by choice and not by an authority enforcing their will upon us. |
HUMILITY Arrogant We can't deny our own superiority. |
HUMILITY Proud We deserve what we have, for we have progressed only through our own hard work. |
HUMILITY Modest How we accomplish our goals is more important than accomplishing them. Effects
|
HUMILITY Humble We show deference to that which allows us success. |
TRUST Treacherous Tell them whatever they want to hear, for then we can do whatever we wish. |
TRUST Deceptive It is better to say what you want them to hear, rather than share all that you think. |
TRUST Honest Our word is our bond. Effects
|
TRUST Candid It is better to offend than to deceive. |
GREED Charitable We must share when another's need is greater than our own. |
GREED Gracious When we have more than we need, we can help others that do not. |
GREED Envious When others have more than us, it is natural to want it for ourselves. |
GREED Greedy The more we have, the better we will be. |
COLLECTIVISM Independent Success depends on ourselves, regardless of others. |
COLLECTIVISM Competitive We can only prove our abilities by pitting ourselves against each other. |
COLLECTIVISM Cooperative When we work together we accomplish more than we can apart. |
COLLECTIVISM Harmonious As one, our accomplishments surpass what any part could alone. |
