== Strategy == An important thing to remember when choosing to play as The Borg is that this game starts in the mid 22nd century. The Collective is still two hundred years of assimilation, adaptation and expansion away from being the terrifying menace that they were when Picard and the Enterprise D first encountered them. You will start with one system and a handful of weak little ships and will be quickly surrounded by the Krenim and other Delta Quadrant species who will prove your match in the early going. Fortunately, the Borg have some excellent things going for them. They have no need for food or consumer goods and begin with a decent income of energy, minerals and other resources. They start with two research labs built and, even without colonizing any worlds, can quickly double that number at no significant cost. This early research head start will be the key to your regional domination. It will be a while before you acquire designs for any ships more powerful than the Pyramid heavy escort, meaning the most effective way to defeat the Krenim and your other neighbours will be to out-research them until your dinky little geometric toys are too hi-tech to be stopped. With regenerative armour, adaptive shielding, transwarp drives and a healthy assortment of Borg-specific weaponry, you'll be all set to begin expanding and assimilating. Assimilating pops will only further your technological advantage, as successful assimilation grants tasty lump sumps of research points. One area where the Borg are weak is in the production of unity and influence. Your starting unity production is horrendous, so you'd do well to increase that to merely "terrible" as soon as possible via the appropriate buildings. Stick one or more of them on every planet and Unicomplex. There isn't much you can do about influence early game since the Borg have no factions. That being said, your lack of treaties and deals mean you'll never have to worry about running out of influence income. You'll find yourself bottle-necked by influence early game as you attempt to claim systems, but it won't be too bad. You'll be assimilating your neighbours' borders as well as their populations soon enough. Before long you'll be given the option to research Transwarp drive. Be sure to use Transwarp instead of standard warp on maps with the open warp setting (every star connected to every neighbouring star - no warp lane chokepoints), as you'll be so much faster than your opponents that you'll be able to intercept and outrun their fleets with ease. Really helps with the tedious whack-a-mole nature of the open warp lanes. In summary, the Borg are about patience, persistence and technological advantage. Have fun!
